Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About SureSmile® Clear Aligners

SureSmile® clear aligners work by applying gentle pressure to your teeth, gradually shifting them into their desired position over time.

Yes, SureSmile® clear aligners are designed for maximum comfort, with smooth edges and a customized fit that won’t irritate your gums or cheeks.

The length of your treatment with SureSmile® clear aligners will depend on your individual needs and the severity of your orthodontic issues. Most patients wear their aligners for 6-18 months.

To get the best results from your SureSmile® clear aligners, it’s important to wear them for at least 22 hours per day, taking them out only to eat and brush your teeth.

While you can drink water with your SureSmile® clear aligners in, it’s recommended to remove them before eating or drinking anything else, to avoid staining or damaging the aligners.

SureSmile® clear aligners are suitable for most patients with mild to moderate orthodontic issues. However, they may not be the best option for patients with severe bite problems or other complex orthodontic needs.

Yes.  At our Shreveport dental office we offer SureSmile® to patients from Shreveport and the surrounding area.  Contact our office today to schedule an appointment.

Common Concerns

Common Concerns About SureSmile Aligners

"How is SureSmile different from Invisalign or ClearCorrect?"

SureSmile uses robotic precision wire-bending technology and advanced 3D digital planning that can result in fewer aligners and shorter treatment times for many cases. The underlying approach is similar — clear, removable trays — but SureSmile's planning software is known for its accuracy in predicting tooth movement. Dr. Michael Woolbert will recommend the system best suited to your specific case.

"Will I need a retainer after SureSmile treatment?"

Yes. All orthodontic treatment requires retention afterward. Without a retainer, teeth can gradually shift back toward their original positions. We provide a custom retainer and clear instructions on how long to wear it to protect your investment.

What to Know

Risks and Considerations

  • Mild pressure when switching to new aligners — resolves within 1–2 days
  • Compliance is critical: aligners must be worn 22+ hours per day for optimal results
  • Not suitable for severe bite issues or complex orthodontic cases
  • Retainer required after treatment to maintain results

Medical Disclaimer

This content is for informational purposes only and does not constitute dental or medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. SureSmile results depend on case complexity and patient compliance. Treatment times vary. A retainer is required to maintain results. Consult Dr. Michael Woolbert or a qualified dental professional regarding orthodontic treatment. Individual results may vary.

Clinical detail

Before, during and after your suresmile clear aligners appointment

Aligners only move teeth while they are in your mouth, so wear time is what decides whether treatment finishes on schedule.

How to prepare

  • A full examination first. Active gum disease and untreated decay are treated before aligners start.
  • Records are taken: photographs, impressions or a digital scan, and digital imaging of the teeth and roots.
  • We are straight with you about whether aligners can achieve what you want, or whether a referral is the better route.
  • The plan, the expected number of trays and the cost are set out before you commit.

How it is carried out

  • A digital treatment plan maps each tooth from its current position to its finishing position.
  • The plan is manufactured as a series of clear, custom aligner trays.
  • You wear each tray for the period we specify, then move on to the next in the series.
  • The trays are removed to eat, brush and floss, then put straight back in.
  • You are reviewed at intervals so the teeth can be checked against the plan and the plan adjusted if they are not tracking.

Afterwards, and long term

  • Aligners only move teeth while they are in your mouth. Wear time is the single biggest factor in whether treatment finishes on schedule.
  • Mild pressure or tenderness for a day or two after changing to a new tray is normal and expected.
  • Clean the trays as instructed and keep them away from heat, which distorts them.
  • Retention afterwards is not optional — teeth drift back. We will explain what you need to wear and for how long.
Materials and technology

What we use, and why it matters to the result

The aligners are only part of it: the digital scan plans the movement, attachments grip the teeth, and retainers hold the result.

SureSmile Clear aligners

The clear, custom trays themselves — one of the four differentiators Woolbert Dental names for the practice.

Digital imaging

Images available to view immediately with far less radiation than film, used to check root position before teeth are moved.

Digital scan or impressions

The record the whole treatment plan is built from — the more accurate it is, the better the trays fit.

Attachments

Small tooth-coloured composite shapes bonded to certain teeth so the aligner can grip and deliver the planned movement.

Retainers

Worn after treatment finishes. Without them teeth drift back towards where they started.
